“AVENUE Q” February 16- March 4

After 7 spectacular years on Broadway and winning the 2004 Tony ® for Best Musical, ?Avenue Q? is having its first Rhode Island production!  The story follows a cast of characters ? some human, some puppet ? in a witty Sesame Street satire that explores the tough details of grown-up life through songs such as ?What Do You Do With a B.A. in English? and ?It Sucks To Be Me?.  ?Avenue Q? is not suitable for children.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT” March 22- April 15

In one of the most well-known musicals by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the biblical story of the coat of many colors comes alive in the spectacular “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”.  In the Book of Genesis, Joseph’s multi-colored coat enables him to interpret dreams, gaining him fame across Egypt.

“NUNSENSE” May 11- June 3

A fun cabaret-style musical, “Nunsense” brings dancing and song to a convent in need of financial help.  The story follows the remaining five nuns trying to raise money to bury the deceased sisters through a variety show when their greeting card scheme doesn’t prove to be as fruitful as they had hoped.

“TITANIC” June 21- July 14

2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the quintessential disaster of the 20th century.  On April 15th a total of 1,517 souls lost their lives as the “floating city” Titanic disappeared into the sea while the band played on.  Maury Yeston and Peter Stone have created comes to the CCA with 2 years on Broadway and five Tonys ® under its belt, including 1997 Best Musical.  Touted by former talk show host Rosie O’Donnell, “Titanic” spins this disastrous journey with a heartwarming tale, with characters spanning from first class down to the crew experiencing the tragedy on different levels.

“TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD” September 13- 30

The first special non-musical to the Series is the play based on the classic book by Harper Lee.  Using the historic Courthouse Center to its full potential with a courtroom-based play, “To Kill A Mockingbird” revisits serious topics of racial injustice and class struggles in a surprisingly heartwarming and humorous narrative.

End of the Year

Well, it’s the end of the year – and more importantly holiday time! The crew at The Courthouse is taking all day tomorrow to go over some ideas for productions for the new year to make us THE destination for the arts in South County (maybe even Rhode Island!).

A big thank you from all of us for those of you who came to our holiday show and made it successful – almost packing the house on Sunday. It took a lot of hard work on everyone’s behalf to make it happen and we are glad it was well received and everyone had a blast in the snow.

We’ll be putting up some information for events coming mid-January soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

Hey guys!

Tonight is the opening of “Home for the Holidays”, which marks the end of our year for performances (I know, it’s bittersweet). The GOOD news is that we have a FULL program planned for the upcoming year that will be announced in January. Those of you who missed the performance last night sure missed a great time. We had an open technical rehearsal – meaning that everyone who was here got to see how a full scale production is put together, piece by piece. We threw in some fun activities and audience involvement and I’m happy to say people left satisfied and with smiles on their faces. If you haven’t called to reserve tickets for our show – WHY??! It’s free, and a sure to be a great time for the whole family. Shoot us a phone call at 401-782-1018 to reserve tickets for Saturday at 2pm and/or 7pm and maybe even Sunday at 2pm! (There’s a show tonight, but by the time you read this, it’s probably started.)

Some other cool news is we will soon be featuring some works done by the staff here, in a series I am naming right now – Better Know The Courthouse Staff. I’m sure I’ll get a better and more creative name later. But that being said, I believe starting next week we’ll feature some of the art work, writings, and other musings of the staff here. You’ll know who it is by the signature in the post. I’ll make sure you know who you tell how much you love their work. STAY TUNED!

Just Another Thursday

Tonight we’ve got the South County Hospital major gifters thank you party at The Courthouse – break out the fancy pants because this should be a pretty hoity-toity event. Should be a great kick-off for the other medical themed events that we haven’t announced yet… this is actually the first official time it’s been mentioned by staff. EXCLUSIVE NEWS.

We’ve got a full season of musicals that will be posted soon as well….

In regards to “Home for the Holidays”, we’re doing some major stuff tonight including rigging up the snow production system for the show. Tomorrow? Who knows what we’ll be up to… stay tuned.

Home for the Holidays!

Thanks to our mischievous Courthouse Elves and everyone that came this weekend, The Artcraft Show and Sale were a success! However, we are continuing to work hard to bring you “Home for the Holidays” beginning December 15th. More information on that show can be found on Facebook or on our website. It’s a free show, as our gift back to the community – so I hope to see you all there. It’s bound to be a great time, with even a surprise bit of snow despite this crazy warm weather. I know, I know… tough to believe that we’ll be able to make it snow. But trust me, it’s incredible. The final bit of auditions in preparation for the show are beginning soon, so keep on the lookout for updates!

Hello World!

Welcome to the blog for The Courthouse Center for the Arts! We’ll be posting some random stuff here  semi-daily about the day to day going-ons of The Courthouse! So ya’ll be sure to check back often as well as check out our Facebook and Twitter pages!

We have some exciting things planned for the Holiday season including Artcraft, “Home for the Holidays” and Musica Dolce! All the information for these events are on the website. We’re hoping to get some art-related things up there that don’t *quite* fit in elsewhere, such as the outside things some of the staff are working on so you can get an idea of who we all are.

Thanks for checking this our and don’t worry – things are going to get much more interesting soon. We’re working real hard to bring events, like “Home For the Holidays” that’ll make your soul tingle with elation.

I’d love to post some more now, but with this crazy New England weather I’m off to take care of these darn allergy problems *sniffle*…
